The present invention relates to an apparatus for separating an envelope and contents, the apparatus efficiently performing separation of the envelope and the contents by sensing the direction of an incoming envelope. An apparatus for separating an envelope and contents according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a transfer device for transferring the envelope so that the lengthwise direction of the envelope becomes the direction of progress; a width sensing unit arranged at the upper stream side of the direction of progress of the envelope above the transfer device; and a control device for receiving information regarding the width of the envelope from the width sensing unit and controlling the operation of the transfer device. The control device is characterized by determining, on the basis of the information from the width sensing unit, whether the incoming envelope is introduced with the flap of the envelope at the front or the incoming envelope is introduced with the flap of the envelope at the rear, and deciding the operation of the transfer device by such a determination. The apparatus for separating an envelope and contents according to the present invention is designed to operate so that the input direction of the envelope is consistently maintained, thereby being capable of preventing unnecessary operating errors and reducing production costs. |
