PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for connecting multi-core fibers, capable of reducing a connection loss, and a multi-core fiber connection body using the method.SOLUTION: A method for connecting multi-core fibers 2 comprises: the shaping step of heating end surfaces 50 of the multi-core fibers 2 to be connected to shape the shapes of the end surfaces 50; and the fusion step of fusing the shaped end surfaces 50 to each other. The multi-core fiber 2 satisfies Y≥20 when a distance from the center of a core 11 positioned nearest on the outer peripheral side of a clad 20 to the side surface of the clad 20 is set to Y μm. In the shaping step, the end surface 50 is heated so as to satisfy 0<X/Y≤0.0054Y+0.268 when a distance in the longitudinal direction from a portion positioned at the farthest end of the multi-core fiber 2 in the longitudinal direction on the shaped end surface 50 to a position having the end surface 50 contacted with the side surface of the clad 20 is set to X. |
