Summary: Disclosed is a method for detecting a target nucleic acid with which it is possible to detect a target nucleic acid with high accuracy and high sensitivity. The method for detecting a target nucleic acid includes a step for hybridizing the target nucleic acid contained in a specimen and a capture probe. At least one nucleic acid base in the nucleic acid molecule of the capture probe is substituted by a photoreactive group, and at least one spacer is inserted into the capture probe. After the step for hybridizing the target nucleic acid and the capture probe, the complex formed by hybridizing the target nucleic acid and the capture probe is irradiated with light, and a covalent bond is formed between the photoreactive group and a nucleic acid base in the target nucleic acid.
