The invention relates to a method for making available a display with at least one symbol (18) in a display device (12) for a motor vehicle (10). The invention is based on the object of simplifying the method for making available a display for a motor vehicle. In this context, an at least partially transparent or transparent panel (20) with a front side (22) and a rear side (24) lying opposite is firstly made available. Subsequently, a first coating (26) is applied to the rear side (24) of the panel (20). In a further step, a contour, which is in the shape of at least one symbol (18), is removed from the first coating (26).
