Open-tray burners; air supply; flame spreaders and deflectors.-An oil burning heater for brooders is constructed with means for deflecting warmth to the lower portions of the brooding space and for preheating the combustion air which travels a tortuous path to the burner. Beneath a metallic base member 1 is mounted a dish-like member 3 secured to the base member by bolts 4 leaving a space 6 between the upper edge 3<1> of the member 3 and the lower side of the base member. In the centre of the member 3 is a raised boss 7 forming the burner proper. Fuel supplied by a pipe 11 burns in the concentric wells 8, 9 and 10, any overflowing fuel being carried away by the pipe 15. The base member 1 has a central orifice 16 into which fit two semicircular members 17 which together form a disc with an aperture 19 and a depending wall 21 terminating in a flange 22 in spaced relation to the surface of the pan 3. The wall 21 causes the combustion air entering at 6 to take a tortuous path and also acts as a baffle to prevent back draughts. Above the burner is mounted a flame spreader 25 which directs the flame on to the base member at about the point indicated by 30 thus warming the incoming air and supplying heat to the floor below the stove. The supply of fuel is regulated by a thermostatic element. |
