A system, method, and apparatus includes management of coasting during operation of a vehicle with a manual transmission to improve fuel economy. An engine can be disconnected from a drive shaft via one of a clutch, a range valve, or splitter gear to place the vehicle in a neutral condition. The engine can be re-connected if engine speed reaches a speed at or before a speed that would damage one of the engine, clutch, and/or transmission. The range or splitter can be placed in a neutral position between gears, In one form the splitter can include a first position and second position, where the second position corresponds to neutral. |
