The object of the arrangement is a fixing arrangement of a hoisting machine of an elevator and a method for installing a hoisting machine of an elevator. The fixing arrangement comprises at least a hoisting machine (3) provided with a traction sheave (3b), which hoisting machine is fixed to a base structure (2), which is further fixed to a machine bedplate (1). The hoisting machine (3) is fixed to the base structure (2) in an inclined attitude with respect to the horizontal plane.
