Weighing system for a front-end-loading waste-hauling vehicle

An extensometer 10 secured to the arms 2 of a front end loading waste vehicle 1 by two mounts. It detects deformation of the arm from which the mass being lifted or lowered is calculated. This enables the net weight of waste in a container to be calculated by subtracting the containers weight when empty from its weight when full. Data from a tilt sensor and GPS can also be recorded when emptying a refuse receptacle. The arm is ideally horizontal when down and multiple extensometers are mounted on each, on opposed upper and lower surfaces and/or spaced apart longitudinally. A jig can be used to mount the extensometers in appropriate places. The mounts can be initially different parts of a single body which is cut after mounting to separate them. The extensometer can be secured by bolts with locking washers or adhesive. The extensometer can include two materials of different hardnesses so that one makes an impression in the other corresponding to the zero tolerance position.
