<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection apparatus capable of effectively making speckles on a surface on which an image is projected inconspicuous while preventing the size of the projection apparatus from becoming extremely large. <P>SOLUTION: A projection device 20 comprises a spatial light modulator 30 and an illumination device 40. The illumination device has: an optical element 50 including a hologram recording medium 55; and an illumination device 60 for illuminating the optical element with coherent light so that rays of light incident upon different positions of the hologram recording medium are respectively diffracted to illuminate the spatial light modulator. Regions illuminated with the rays of coherent light incident upon the different positions of the hologram recording medium overlap with each other in at least a portion of the region. The coherent light repeatedly scans, on the hologram recording medium, a linear path parallel to end sides forming a modulated image forming surface. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
