<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine, capable of recirculating an exhaust gas by a reduced number of members, and reducing NOx contained in the exhaust gas, and to provide a method of controlling the internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine includes: an exhaust port 25 for exhausting the combustion gas generated by the combustion of fuel gas from a combustion chamber to the outside; an exhaust valve 24 for opening and closing the exhaust port 25; a scavenging port 27, which communicates between a scavenging chamber 23 and the combustion chamber 22, and which is opened and closed by a reciprocating piston 29; and a control unit 30 for controlling the opening and closing of the exhaust valve 24 so that the pressure in the combustion chamber 22 may be increased more than the pressure in the scavenging chamber 23, when the scavenging port 27 begins opening. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
