<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading technology with which the time required for main scan can be shortened. <P>SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus includes a reading unit 62 which reads a document on a document placement plate 61, a prescan control section which controls the reading unit 62 to move in a sub-scan direction from an original standby position L0 outside of the document placement plate 61 and to read a prescan range S1, a detection section which detects a top position of a document P disposed at a side of the original standby position L0 on the basis of a read result read by the reading unit 62 under the control of the prescan control section, a determination section which determines a new standby position L3 so as to correspond to the top position of the document, and a main scan control section which controls the reading unit 62 to move to the new standby position L3 and to read a main scan range S2 set narrower than the prescan range S1 in the sub-scan direction from the new standby position L3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT</p> |
