Disclosed is a transmitter, which comprises: an encoder for performing non-binary coding with respect to an information word based on a parity check matrix so as to generate a codeword; an interleaver for interleaving the codeword; and a modulation unit for modulating the interleaved codeword to generate a modulation symbol. The interleaver inverleaves the codeword to allow a predetermined non-binary symbol among non-binary symbols constituting the codeword to be mapped at a predetermined position in the modulation symbol.
