<p>The apparatus (2) has a switch (10) e.g. FET, for switching a load current. The switch has a control variable and an output variable that is dependent on the control variable. A control loop (24) connected to the switch keeps a switch variable constant at a predetermined value. An evaluation unit (28) determines the load current based on the control variable or output variable of the switch. The evaluation unit monitors the switch variable that is kept constant, and emits a signal when a constant value of the switch variable deviates by a predetermined deviation amount.</p> |
