[Class 145 (i).] In a multi-spindle dovetailing-machine longitudinal and transverse movements respectively are imparted to the worktable 4, 5 by means of cam grooves 9, 14 in a rotating drum 2, the former movement direct and the latter through adjustable racks 10, 12 and spur wheels 11. The drum is worm driven from a countershaft 19 provided with change wheels 36 and a spring key adjusted by means of a rod 37, the change wheels being in gear with wheels 35 on the clutch shaft 18. The latter is driven through a clutch 23 by worm gearing from the main shaft 3, the clutch being locked in position by a rod 29 engaging a recess 30 in the clutchoperating bar 24. When the locking rod is released by a projection 31 on the cam or by rotating the cross spindle 32, the clutch is withdrawn under the action of a spring 26 thus stopping the feed. The clutch rod 18 has a squared extension to accommodate a lever for hand operation. Dovetails of any required size may be obtained by changing the cam 2. The vertical rotary cutters are arranged in front of the worktable and driven through spiral gearing from the main shaft.
