This invention pertains generally to prostacyclin formulations and methods for their use in promoting vasodilation, inhibiting platelet aggregation and thrombus formation, stimulating thrombolysis, inhibiting cell proliferation (including vascular remodeling), providing cytoprotection, preventing atherogenesis and inducing angiogenesis.

A method of treating pulmonary hypertension comprising intravenously administering to a human suffering from pulmonary hypertension a formulation for intravenous administration comprising a therapeutically effective amount of treprostinil or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof and a diluent selected from the group consisting of sterile water, isotonic aqueous saline solution, and 5% dextrose solution.
