A urea preparation process comprising: (a) reacting, in a vertical reactor and at an overall pressure ranging from 12 MPa to 20 MPa, at least one ammonia stream and at least one fresh carbon dioxide stream having an ammonia to carbon dioxide molar ratio ranging from 2.1 to 6, the at least one carbon dioxide stream containing a passivation agent having an oxygen content of at least 0.1% in moles with respect to the moles of carbon dioxide, the reaction forming a first liquid mixture containing urea, ammonium carbamate, water and ammonia in a liquid/vapour equilibrium with a gaseous phase containing at least a part of the passivation agent, (b) transferring the first liquid mixture to a vertical stripper operating at a pressure of at least 0.1 MPa lower than that of the reaction; (c) separating at least a part of the gaseous phase in the liquid/vapour equilibrium with the first liquid mixture in a gas-liquid separator situated downstream of the reactor, the gas-liquid separator operating at substantially the same overall pressure to form a first gaseous mixture containing the passivation agent, (d) feeding the first gaseous mixture containing the passivation agent to a lower section of the stripper, (e) simultaneously: (i) heating the first liquid mixture to decompose part of the ammonium carbamate into ammonia and carbon dioxide, and(ii) stripping the liquid mixture to form: (A) a second gaseous mixture containing ammonia and carbon dioxide, and(B) a second liquid mixture containing urea, water, ammonia and any non-decomposed part of the ammonium carbamate; (f) condensing, at a same pressure as the heating and stripping, at least a part of the second gaseous mixture to form a third liquid mixture containing ammonium carbamate, water and ammonia; and (g) transferring the formed third liquid mixture and any remaining part of the second gaseous mixture to the reactor for at least one repeat of at least (a).
