1. Process for preparing a substituted biphenyl of formula (III) where X1 and X2 are each independently selected from halogen atoms; n is selected from 0, 1 and 2; m is selected from 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5; R1 is selected from —NHR2, —NO2, —NR3—CO—R2 and —N═CR4R5; R2-R5 are each selected from hydrogen, linear or branched C1-12-alkyl groups, cyclic C3-8-alkyl groups, —CH2—CO—CH3, benzyl groups, benzoyl groups, pyrazolyl groups of formula (IVa) and pyridyl groups of the formula (IVb) where, in formulae (IVa) and (IVb), when R1 is —NR3—CO—R2, the bond marked with # is bonded to the carbonyl group in each case, R6 and R7 are each selected from hydrogen, halogen, a linear or branched C1-12-alkyl group and a C1-6-haloalkyl group having 1 to 6 halogen atoms; comprising reacting one or more arenes of formula (I) where R1, X1 and n correspond to the above definitions with one or more arenes of formula (II) where X2 and m correspond to the above definitions, the reaction being performed in the presence of a transition metal catalyst, of at least one oxidizing agent, up to five additives and in a solvent. |
