The present invention relates to an electronic shelf label system, and a method for operating an electronic shelf label system. The electronic shelf label system comprises: a main server in which product information on products is stored; an electronic shelf label which receives the product information from the main server and displays the same, and includes a short-range wireless communications tag in which a product recognition ID is previously stored; and a mobile communications terminal which reads the product recognition ID and transmits the same to the main server, and receives the product information from the main server and displays the same.
