Provided are a remote control device, and a method for controlling the operation of an electronic device. The remote control device controls the operation of an electronic device, which includes: a gyro sensor which detects the rotating direction of the remote control device and outputs motion sensing signals with respect to each rotating direction; a track pad which outputs touch sensing signals with respect to user′s touch by fingers; an input processing unit which interprets the motion sensing signals and the touch sensing signals and generates each command code matched to the operation control with respect to the motion sensing signals and the touch sensing signals; and a transmitting unit which outputs the remote control signals including the command code to the electronic device.
