The disclosure relates to a composition for treating wood comprising a carrier and at least one wood preserving compound. The carrier is an emulsion comprising a hydrophobic phase, a hydrophilic phase and a surfactant system comprising a non-ionic polyethoxylated alkyl amine and an anionic C10-C14 alkyl benzene sulfonate. The preservative is selected from a fungicide, a bactericide, an insecticide and mixtures thereof. The composition may further comprise a quaternary ammonium salt. The non-ionic polyethoxylated alkyl amine may be ethoxylated oleylamine and the anionic C10-C14 alkyl benzene sulfonate may be linear dodecylbenzene sulfonate. The quaternary ammonium salt may be benzylalkonium chloride or didecyldimethylammonium chloride. The disclosure also relates to a method of treating wood using the composition, which may include a vacuum pressure process. The vacuum pressure process may be a Bethell process, a single pressure cycle Lowry process, a multiple pressure cycle Lowry process, a Reuping process or a Vac-Vac process. |
