The invention relates to a method for producing xerogels of sepiolite, that can generate highly viscous products. Xerogels are solids resulting from the drying of gels by means of elimination of the liquid in which have formed. The invention thus relates to the method for the deagglomeration of the sepiolite fibres by means of sonomechanical treatment by ultrasound irradiation in such a way as to form a gel which, once dried, produces a xerogel which is redispersible in water and other polar means in order to generate very viscous, stable and homogeneous suspensions.
