The invention relates to biologically based test systems for the detection of inorganic and organic pollutants in liquid samples,including drinking water samples, comprising bacterium material producing a reporter protein upon induction of a regulatory protein in presence of said pollutant, as well as methods for preparing said test systems and uses thereof in the detection of pollutants in liquid samples.
