PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for determining a lane identifier in a roadway in a method and device of warning a vehicle driver to assist the driver in operating the vehicle safely and efficiently on the road.SOLUTION: A method includes a computer device 100 including at least one processor 102 and a memory 104, the at least one processor executing program instructions to: obtain a lane marker type from one of sensors; obtain an instantaneous position of a vehicle; determine the number of lanes in the roadway at the instantaneous position of the vehicle; detect lane crossings of the vehicle between the plurality of lanes in the roadway; and generate a lane identifier confidence indicating a probability that the vehicle is in a particular lane of the plurality of lanes in the roadway.
