1. A method of processing a purchase transaction between a user and a merchant system by a payment service system that is separate from the merchant system, comprising:
receiving, by the payment service system, a payment request from the merchant system, the payment request being generated in response to the user initiating the purchase transaction to purchase an item from the merchant system using a single action, the payment request including a communication identifier and a security code associated with a payment card obtained from the user for the purchase transaction, the communication identifier and the security code being used to avoid a need for the user to provide a payment card number and other information associated with the payment card to the merchant system and the need for the user to sign in to an account to proceed with the purchase transaction; using the communication identifier to identify an account associated with the user, the account having been created by the payment service system to store information relating to the payment card linked to a financial account from which funds can be withdrawn or deposited; verifying that the security code submitted by the user matches a corresponding security code associated with the payment card; and upon verifying, initiating a transfer of a payment amount associated with the purchase transaction from the financial account linked to the payment card to a financial account associated with the merchant system to complete the purchase transaction. |
