PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition which is improved in water absorption, water vapor permeation characteristics and oxygen permeation rate characteristics while retaining oil and grease resistances and has barrier characteristics.SOLUTION: A coating composition contains a dispersion comprising a core containing a base polymer which consists of a thermoplastic polymer selected from ethylene-based polymers, propylene-based polymers and their combinations, a shell which contains a polar polymeric stabilizer and surrounds the core at least partially and one or more hydrophobic particle-like fillers, and the dispersion is prepared by supplying the base polymer, the polar polymeric stabilizer and the hydrophobic particle-like fillers simultaneously to a melt kneader.
