A decorative component (1) for motor vehicles which comprises a molded resin (3) having a decorative layer (2) on a surface layer part thereof and a clear coating layer (4) that protects the surface of the decorative layer (2), the surface of the clear coating layer (4) having high-gloss regions (R1), which have a relatively high gloss, and, intermingled therewith, low-gloss regions (R2), which have a relatively low gloss. The clear coating layer (4) is formed by spraying a clear coating composition over the surface of the decorative layer (2) with an atomization-type coater, the clear coating composition containing an ester-based solvent that is a low-boiling-point solvent having a boiling point below 100°C, as the main solvent, and having a solid content of 35-40 mass%. Thus, the clear coating layer has a surface partly reduced in gloss, and a decorative component having a highly attractive appearance is produced. |
