Nitro- and amino-dichlorbenzoyl benzoic acids are obtained by nitrating 31 : 41 dichlor-2-benzoyl benzoic acid made by condensing o-dichlorbenzene with phthalic anhydride in the presence of aluminium chloride, and reducing the nitro-products. Examples are given in which nitration is performed with 97 per cent nitric acid, or a mixture of nitric and sulphuric acids, and reduction with ammonia and ferrous sulphate, or iron pin dust and sodium chloride.
