PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a precision in positioning an optical writing head to a latent image carrier cannot be assured when a foreign substance such as toner sticking on the latent image carrier enters between contact surfaces of a spacer member and the latent image carrier.SOLUTION: An optical writing head positioning mechanism includes a spacer member 21 which is provided between a latent image carrier 2 which carries a latent image and an optical writing head which exposes the latent image carrier 2 to form a latent image, for positioning the optical writing head relative to the latent image carrier 2. A passing preventing agent 30 which prevents a foreign substance on the latent image carrier 2 from passing between contact surfaces of the spacer member 21 and the latent image carrier 2 is made to stick to the spacer member 21.
