The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition and a food composition for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases, containing a Siraitia grosvenori extract, a fraction thereof, or a compound isolated therefrom as an active ingredient. The Siraitia grosvenori extract, the fraction thereof, or the compound isolated therefrom of the present invention is derived from a natural product, which has been used as a natural medicinal herb for a long time, thereby having no side effects, and suppressing expression of inflammation-related factors IL-6 and IL-1β and/or a COX-2 gene. In addition, the Siraitia grosvenori extract, the fraction thereof, or the compound isolated therefrom has excellent effects of: suppressing MUC5AC production; alleviating tracheal hypersensitivity; inhibiting inflammatory cell infiltration in bronchi; suppressing IgE production in serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid; and suppressing expression of Th2 cytokines (IL-5 and IL-13), thereby being effectively used in preventing or treating asthma or inflammatory diseases including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
