PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PTC (positive temperature coefficient of resistance) device which offers a solution to the problem of the increase in surface specific resistance for forming a base metal electrode on BaTiObased semiconductor ceramic composition by baking.SOLUTION: A PTC device comprises: a semiconductor ceramic composition 1 having a perovskite structure and composed of a BaTiOtype oxide; and a base metal electrode including at least one of Al and Ni as a primary component and formed on the semiconductor ceramic composition by baking. In the base metal electrode, an amount of carbon remaining therein is 90 ppm or less. The base metal electrode includes: a first electrode layer 2a forming the first layer in contact with the semiconductor ceramic composition; and a second electrode layer 2b forming the second layer covering the first electrode layer 2a.
