PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus and a gradient magnetic field power supply capable of reducing the electric power consumed by switching loss in the gradient magnetic field power supply.SOLUTION: A magnetic resonance imaging apparatus according to an embodiment includes a gradient magnetic field power supply for supplying power to a gradient magnetic field coil. The gradient magnetic field power supply comprises a plurality of switching circuits and a switching unit. Each of the switching circuits outputs a predetermined pulse voltage. The switching unit, in accordance with the magnitude of the voltage to be output to the gradient magnetic field coil, switches an operation mode between a first operation mode and a second operation mode, the first operation mode causing a first number of switching circuits of the plurality of switching circuits to perform switching operation, and the second operation mode causing a second number of switching circuits, less than the first number, of the plurality of switching circuits to perform switching operation. |
