[Class 75 (i).] A fluid-cooled burner particularly for use in brick-burning furnaces in which the air supply is preheated by passing over the outgoing bricks comprises two sections 1, 2 secured together, each comprising a cooling chamber annularly arranged about a central opening, one of the openings 6 being tapered and terminating in a projection 7 which extends into the opening 16 of the other section but is spaced therefrom to leave an annular passage 30 for the supply of gas which draws in air through the central opening 6. The two flat hollow sections 1, 2 are secured together by bolts 3, the section 1 having an annular depression 4 on its inner side, into which fits an annular shoulder 11 on the other section 2. Gas is supplied by a pipe 15 to the annular space 12 between the sections and issues through the annular orifice 30 drawing in air through the central opening 6. The chambers 10, 18 within the burner sections are supplied with cooling liquid through a pipe 25 surrounding the gas supply pipe 15. Partition walls 20, 21 extend across the chambers which are connected by an opening 22 so that the cooling liquid travels completely around each chamber before it is discharged through a pipe 26. Secondary air may be induced around the burner by providing a refractory block 32 having a venturi opening 33 in alignment with the burner opening. By adjusting the distance between the burner and the block 32 the amount of secondary air induced may be varied. To regulate the quantity of air induced through the central opening 6 removable linings of different thicknesses may be fitted in the opening or the lining may be adjusted to and from the opening. To aid in separating the sections of the burner radial projections 31 are provided. |
