[Class 46.] In separating solids from liquids by continuous filtration, the mixture being filtered is kept homogenous by agitating and adding a clear liquid similar in character to the filtrate. With the apparatus shown a portion of the filtrate is used as the additional liquid. The filtrate is drawn from the rotating drum filter 3 through a pipe 24 to a tank B by a vacuum pump C. A pump 13 passes part of the liquid from the tank B to discharge through a barrel 22 and the remainder through pipes 21, 12, and a flexible hose 11 to pipes 8, 9, which are provided with nozzles 14 and extend longitudinally in the tank 1 below the filter 3. The pipes 8, 9 are supported by cranks 6 on the shaft 2 of the filter and are oscillated by connecting-rods 15 from a prime mover 17. Alternatively or additionally diluting liquid may be supplied through longitudinal rows of nozzles 18. in the bottom of tank 1. Modified apparatus is described in which the cranks 6 support sectorshaped frames carrying longitudinal agitators, the pipes 8, 9 being omitted. |
