发明名称 Treatment of titanium ores
摘要
533,378. Titanium oxide. CLEVELAND. F. J. (Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co.). Aug. 29, 1939, No. 24807. [Class 1 (iii)] Iron is removed from iron-titanium ores by mixing the ore with carbon and heating to above 500‹C. in an atmosphere of chlorine and in the absence of oxidizing gases. Temperatures of 700‹-1150‹C. and carbon proportions of 2-9 per cent are preferred. The iron is volatilized as chloride which may be collected leaving titanium dioxide as a residue. The ore may be made into briquettes with carbon and molasses or a bituminous &c. binder. The chlorine may be diluted with nitrogen, carbon dioxide, or carbon monoxide. Hydrogen chloride, phosgene and other chlorinating agents may be mixed with the chlorine. Some of the iron may be first removed by chlorination in the absence of carbon. Chlorination may be carried out in various types of furnace but a shaft furnace is preferred. Residual titanium dioxide may be further purified by adding excess of carbon and further chlorinating. Specification 533,379 is referred to.
