[Class 18.] In a machine for making paper boxes in collapsed form from paper blanks having side flaps a, Fig. 8, end flaps b creased on diagonal lines e and end extensions c, means are employed to engage the laterally extending parts of the flaps a and fold them over on to the upper face of the blank and the end flaps bare folded on the lines e on to the folded side flaps by means common to the front and rear end flaps. As shown, the blanks are fed from a table 11, Fig. 1, by rollers 13, 15 and are taken 'therefrom by belts 17, 18, Fig. 3, which move in recesses in the rollers and feed the blanks past fixed folders 24 which fold over the side flaps a and past glueing rollers 29 which glue the extensions c. Belts 41, 41a then carry the folded flaps a under guards 46 and fixed folders 47, Fig. 5, turn the extensions c vertically, rotatable wheels 49 then folding them on the lines e in the direction opposite to the travel of the blanks on to the side flaps a ; inclined belts 50 complete the folding. The rear glued extensions are similarly folded in the direction of the travel of the blanks and from the belts 50 the collapsed boxes pass through pressure mechanism which completes the sealing of the glued joints and delivers the boxes from the machine. The wheels 49 are positively driven from a motor 55 and drive the belts 50 and the lower feed roller 15 is driven by an adjustable friction drive 34, 35 from the shaft 31 geared to the glueing mechanism. |
