Power generating apparatus 10 comprises a wind turbine 12 within a housing 14. The wind turbine comprises a plurality of rotatable turbine blades 66, of which there may be between 40 and 56. The housing has a forward region 20 extending forward of the wind turbine, defining an inlet opening 22, which may be at an angle, and a rearward region 24 extending rearward of the wind turbine, defining an outlet opening. The rear and forward regions may each taper or be frustoconical in shape. Each turbine blade may have a pitch that varies from the leading edge to the trailing edge, and a pitch control arrangement comprised of a hinge and urging arrangement, which may be springs, to apply a force on the turbine blades. The pitch may change position when the wind force exceeds the biasing force. There may be support and nose assemblies and the housing may be formed of a frame with a skin. A mounting arrangement may pivot so that the housing revolves, being driven reactive to the wind force. |
