352,860. Printing-machines. DAVIS, A. B., 100, Ardmore Road, Springfield, Ohio, U.S.A. Oct. 31, 1930, No. 32768. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1929. [Class 100 (ii.).] Inking-apparatus.-Inking-rollers are formed with a body portion having a slight taper from end to end, and a coating of material which has a good affinity for ink, such as the known printers' roller composition, is applied in a fluid state, and is permitted to drain in the direction of the taper, so as to leave a film of the composition, which is thicker at the smaller end of the body, in order to compensate for the taper. The roller comprises a metal shaft 1 having a body portion 2 of vulcanized oil, vulcanized indiarubber, &c. with a taper of about three thirty-seconds of an inch. The roller is rotated, preferably in an inclined position, to receive the liquid composition 3, which may be applied by means of apparatus of the kind described in Specification 238,286, [Class 100 (ii), Printing processes &c.] The roller is then drained in a substantially upright position. |
