The element (1) has a connecting element (6) in electrically contact with a terminal contact (5) and a pole of a varistor (3) via a thermally separating connection. The connection is separated when the temperature of the component exceeds a preset boundary temperature. A spring system exerts a force that causes the connecting element to move out of electrically contact with the terminal contact and the pole. The connecting element is connected to an insulating disconnecting element (10) so that the disconnecting element is moved between the terminal contact and the pole.
