PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road shoulder detection system capable of accurately measuring the orientation of a vehicle with respect to a road shoulder and the distance to the road shoulder.SOLUTION: The road shoulder detection system of the present invention includes: road shoulder detection units 2a and 2b for scanning a road surface A ahead of a vehicle 1 in the travel direction of the vehicle 1 and detecting a road shoulder B located on the road surface A; and a road shoulder measurement device 21a for measuring the orientation of the vehicle 1 with respect to the road shoulder B detected by the road shoulder detection units 2a and 2b, and measuring the distance to the road shoulder B. Two road shoulder detection units 2a and 2b are installed on the travel direction side of the vehicle 1. Two road shoulder detection units 2a and 2b are installed at positions higher than the upper end of a front wheel 1d.
