PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool useful for cutting this at a high speed, even when using a high hardness member such as cast iron as a machinable material, by further improving abrasion resistance, by devising a surface quality of a hard coating film.SOLUTION: A cutting tool of the present invention is a cutting tool of covering a base material surface with a hard coating film, and a root-mean square inclination R&Dgr;q in a surface of the hard coating film is 0.060° or less, and arithmetic average roughness Ra in the surface of the hard coating film is set to 0.030 μm-0.30 μm, and maximum height roughness Rz in the surface of the hard coating film is set to 0.20 μm-3.5 μm, when necessary. |
