OPTIMIZATION OF CONTACT LENSES TO REDUCE ABERRATIONS AND METHODS FOR THEIR DESIGN

A method is provided for designing soft contact lenses in which an optical performance of an aspheric front surface is optimized for lens centration using computer modelling using an eye model and a ray trace program. The method includes setting a plurality of configurations of the lens-eye model representing different pupil sizes and lens decentrations; generating a merit function representing the optical performance of the lens-eye model at a plurality of fields for each of the plurality of configurations; and changing the parameters of the front surface during an optimization routine to minimize the merit function, thereby improving optical performance of the lens-eye model.
