PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a natural edge emphasis corresponding to a frequency band of a subject.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: a local contrast correction section 1071 which performs local contrast correction on a signal from a D-range adjustment section 1070; a gamma conversion section 1072 for performing gamma conversion on the signal on which the local contrast correction has been performed; an edge extraction section 1073 for extracting an edge from the signal from the D-range adjustment section 1070; a gain adjustment section 1075 for each luminance for multiplying an extracted edge signal by a gain on the basis of the signal on which the local contrast correction has been performed; and an edge addition section 1080 for emphasizing the edge of the signal on which the gamma conversion has been performed by the gamma conversion section 1072, by using the edge signal of which the gain is adjusted by the gain adjustment section 1075 for each luminance.
