PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle communication system in which a processing load in a portable terminal to be used as a vehicle key is small.SOLUTION: A vehicle communication system 1 is comprised of a vehicle 10 and a smartphone 20. The smartphone 20 includes: a microphone 25 for picking up a sound wave; and a BT communication part 22 for transmitting a sound wave response signal as a response to the sound wave picked up by the microphone 25. The vehicle 10 includes: speakers 17 and 18 for radiating the sound wave; a BT communication part 12 for receiving the sound wave response signal; a first counter 11b for measuring a smartphone response time required from the time the sound wave is radiated until the time the sound wave response signal is received; and an in-vehicle control part 11 for calculating a distance between the vehicle 10 and the smartphone 20 by multiplying the smartphone response time by a sound speed. The in-vehicle control part 11 permits the driving of in-vehicle equipment when it is determined that the smartphone 20 approaches the vehicle 10 on the basis of the calculated distance. |
