A modular multi-level converter according to an embodiment of the present invention relates to a modular multi-level converter having a plurality of sub modules which comprises: a controller for calculating the entire control value corresponding to output AC power of the modular multi-level converter; an arm controller for calculating a control value corresponding to each phase based on the entire control value that the controller calculates and controlling each sub module based on the control value; and the sub modules for generating an output voltage based on control of the arm controller. The modular multi-level converter efficiently controls the sub modules.
