The present invention relates to a composition for treating or preventing inflammatory diseases, containing a fermented milk extract as an active ingredient. According to the present invention, the fermented milk extract has no cytotoxicity, and decreases the expression of inflammatory cytokines in immune cells such as T cells and macrophages, thereby suppressing immune response due to such effects. In addition, the fermented milk extract exhibits excellent capability of relieving inflammation in large intestines in an animal model developing inflammatory bowel disease, thereby being able to be effectively used for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases.
