A fuel injection nozzle (24) for a gas turbine engine (10) has a central fuel ejection nozzle (34) and a plurality of airflow passages (40,44,46,50,52) within the spray tip (28) that include a first and second group of circumferentially spaced apart fuel-spray forming airflow passages (44,46) disposed on opposite sides of a transverse axis (42) and oriented towards each other such as to produce opposed fuel spray shaping air jets (23) which generate a shaped final fuel spray (90).
