PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine the presence/absence of a character at a predetermined digit from an image capturing a character string with a plurality of digits.SOLUTION: The character presence/absence determination system for determining the presence/absence of a character at a predetermined digits in a character string formed from characters for a plurality of digits printed on a paper sheet includes: a digit image acquisition section for acquiring, from a character string image including an image of a determination digit to determine the presence/absence of a character, a determination digit image of the determination digit and a character determined digit image of a character determined digit; an evaluation value calculation section for calculating a character recognition evaluation value indicating certainty as a character image regarding the determination digit image and the character determined digit image; and a character presence/absence determination section for determining the presence/absence of a character at the determination digit on the basis of the character recognition evaluation value of the determination digit image while utilizing three thresholds of a character threshold for determining that a character is present at the determination digit, a non-character threshold for determining that a character is absent at the determination digit, and a threshold for determination which has a value between the character threshold and the non-character threshold and is calculated on the basis of the character recognition evaluation value of the character determined digit image. |
