The electrical properties of the electrodes may be customized by modifying the structure of the polymer nanofibers, the thickness of the nanofiber film, and the pore size of the nanofiber films.

An ion storage electrode comprising: a substrate having a nanofibrillar film with a thickness of at least one monolayer disposed thereon, the film being formed from a plurality of doped amphoteric conjugate polymer nanofibers, wherein the polymer nanofibers have a diameter of from 1 to 100 nm and a length of from 2 to 30 μm, wherein the film of nanofibers is substantially free from polymer aggregates, and wherein the film of nanofibers is disposed on the substrate such that the polymer nanofibers are oriented substantially parallel to the substrate surface.
