1. An image pickup apparatus comprising:
an image pickup element configured to photoelectrically convert an optical image; and a controller configured to control a drive of a focus lens based on a signal outputted from the image pickup element and configured to control a frame rate to drive the image pickup element, wherein the controller is configured to: detect an in-focus position based on a signal outputted from the image pickup element which is driven at a first frame rate, and switch the frame rate of the image pickup element to a second frame rate lower than the first frame rate while performing a first operation to drive the focus lens to the in-focus position.
