PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image formation apparatus which can detect the moisture retention abnormality on a nozzle formation surface in a recording head.SOLUTION: An ink jet printing image formation apparatus of forming an image on a recording medium by discharging ink to the transported recording medium, in order to detect the occurrence of abnormality in supply of moisture retention liquid to a moisture retention cap 340 for retaining moisture in the vicinity of a nozzle formation surface by covering the nozzle formation surface in a recording head 321 on which a nozzle discharging ink to the recording medium is formed, supplies the moisture retention liquid to the moisture retention cap, emits light so that the optical axis becomes in parallel to the covering surface of the moisture retention cap, receives the emitted light, outputs a signal at a level in accordance with the intensity of the received light, and detects the occurrence of abnormality in supply of the moisture retention liquid to the moisture retention cap on the basis of the level of the output signal. |
